About Us
GlobeCare has been founded to address numerous challenges facing the poor and vulnerable communities in the developing countries. The Organization was established to address environmental and developmental challenges with a target to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals in least and developing countries. In the places where we operate the governments are poor and unable to meet the development needs for their populations. There is high inequality and poverty is generally very high. Youth unemployment is high and there are limited options for sustainable livelihoods. Food security and poverty is still the main challenge facing developing countries. Most people in the areas we focus on are poor and living below the international poverty line of US$2.15 per day. The level of unemployment is very high and there are limited alternatives for income generation. Communities in the areas where we focus do not have access/ have limited access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. Their health is compromised by lack of improved WASH services and child mortality (Under 5’s) is relatively very high. Waterborne diseases are prevalent and communities especially women and children are exposed to travelling long distances to access unsafe water. Gender considerations are still not considered, and women and girls are disproportionately considered in development. In such contexts, environmental management is poor and natural resources are overexploited for livelihoods support. There is high deforestation, land degradation and overexploitation of wetlands. The communities are not well capacitated on proper environmental management. The communities are prone to natural disasters and are less prepared to respond. Their resilience capacity is very low. This is further exacerbated by the increasing threats of climate change.
GlobeCare focus is to contribute to the attainment of all the UN sustainable Development goals. However, our focus is focusing in the attainment of the below stated SDGs, while there is limited contribution to the rest of the goals.
SGD 1 No Poverty Our community programmes directly focus of eliminating poverty I n the areas of target. This we achieve by strengthening community livelihoods and empowering communities to increase food production and eliminate poverty
SDG 2 Zero Hunger Related to SDG 1, GlobeCare focus is to eliminate food insecurity and eliminate hunger amongst the most vulnerable and poor. Food security and improving agricultural systems contributes to eliminating hunger in the places where we work.
SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation Goal 6 is part of the core SDGs GlobeCare is focusing on addressing. We implement programmes focusing on improving communities access to clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene. We seek to contribute to the attainment of universal access to safe water. We endeavour to support the management of water resources to ensure sustainable provision and access of sufficient clean and safe water for human consumption and economic development including food production.
SDG 13 Climate Action GlobeCare considers climate change as one of the major environmental threats facing humanity in this century. We therefore deliver programmes that seek to build the adaptive capacity of rural communities to manage negative threats of climate change. Due to the increasing frequency of climate related disasters, GlobeCare programming integrate innovative solutions that addresses climate change and associated climate change induced disasters.
SDG 15 Life on Land GlobeCare consider the environment as key in sustaining human life. Without a good environment it is impossible to ensure sustainable development. Our focus is to strengthen the management of the environment
Other SDGs that GlobeCare foundation is aligning with include:- SDG 3 Good Health and well being
- SDG 4 Quality Education
- SDG 5 Gender Equality
